Aberdeen Brewing Company

New-built large semi-elegant restaurant, bar, and ex-brewery in new, upscale residential, business, shopping area with nearby golf course. Beautifully appointed spaces with many rooms, fireplaces, windows, and displays.

The lounge bar is from a boarding house / bordello / saloon in Hammond and dates back to the 1800's.

Aberdeen was a brewpub for the first 4 years of its life but when their brewer, Sam Strupeck, left in May, 2004 they mothballed the vessels. Hopefully brewing will return by 2005 with a smaller brewing system.

We've left the following info here because there are, at the time of this writing, still many ales still on tap from Sam Strupeck's last days.

  IBU ABV
Golden Ale Kölsch German-style ale. A bit of lemon and bread in the character. Good session beer.   25 4.3%
English "Skadi" Pale Ale With floral citrus finish from Challenger hops. Light gold color. Understated.   32 4.7%
Queen Mum IPA Distinctly hoppy start that soon seems normal. Restrained   49 7.5%
County Porter Lots of chocolate malt. Mahogany color. Roasty notes. Complex. (Valparaiso is in Porter County). 22 4.2%
1776 American Ale Medium copper color. Complex nose and flavor - yeast, bread, apple, pine. Chinook bittering hops. 54 6.3%
Aberdeen Scottish Ale (seasonal) 80/- ale. Dark ruby color and malty character. Our pick for a beer with almost any meal. 30 5.2%
Samuel David Oatmeal Stout (seasonal) A smooth stout with some nicely placed edges.     5.7%
Bah Humbug Spiced Ale (seasonal) Mildly spiced with nutmeg, coriander, anis, and vanilla. Aberdeen's chef was astounded when the brewer requisitioned 2 pounds of vanilla beans.
Braveheart Barley Wine Roasted barley gives it a very dark ruby color. New recipe this year.     9%

The 1776 and the Barley Wine are the only beers using American hops. All others are true British style ales.
