Breweries are expanding beyond the model of ten and twenty years ago; back then most breweries were either a brew pub or a brewery with a tap room. There are still plenty of those and new ones opening up. Yet we’ve also seen the elaborate expansion of multi-use facilities and multiple businesses owned by the same owners as breweries. Big Woods Restaurants and Quaff On Brewing settled out their names (originally combined on some properties) and now have five restaurants (Nashville original, Nashville Pizza, Bloomington, Speedway, and Franklin) all serving Quaff On beer plus Hard Truth Distilling with a huge Brown County property that features planned four-wheeler tours. Sahm’s expanded Big Lug Canteen restaurant and brewery first to Sahm’s Ale House restaurant next door and now to soon-to-open Liter House on Winthrop in Broad Ripple taking over what once was Bent Rail and will now be a German Style beer hall and Bier Garten on the Monon Trail (more on our blog once they open).
Daredevil Brewing, Speedway, opened Daredevil Hall, in the rather new boutique hotel near Keystone at the Crossing called Ironworks Hotel Indy, in the Complex at 2721 E. 86th Street. Daredevil Hall combines a taproom and restaurant with rotating ales and lagers plus food inspired by European recipes created by Executive Chef Neal Brown who has had Pizzology and Stella, both now closed, on Mass Ave. with local ales and lagers. While Lift Off IPA is the most distributed beer of Daredevil, they have brewed eighteen different lager style beers since 2013. The variety of lagers as well as their noted IPAs will pair well with European themed food in their new north-side location.
Hours are Friday: 11 am to 12 pm; Saturday: 10 am to 12 pm; Sunday: 10 am to 9 pm; Monday to Thursday: 11 am to 11 pm.
Daredevil relayed, “We created Daredevil Hall at Ironworks Hotel Indy to provide a community gathering place for any social occasion and to celebrate craft beer inspired foods and cultures from around the world. To bring the menu to life we partnered with Executive Chef Neal Brown, who like ourselves brings a passion for sense of place and takes inspiration from authentic and traditional ingredients and methods.”
Daredevil also reached a milestone of three years of the brewery and tap house in Speedway, celebrating on June 23, 2018. Daredevil was brewing in Shelbyville at their inception in late 2012, shipping in 2013, and opened their grand facility in Speedway in 2015. On Saturday, June 23, they have draft & can release of NEX IPA: Experiment #6, featuring Citra + Mosaic hops, plus release of 12 packs/12 oz cans of our Lift Off IPA & Vacation Kolsch, and in the Taproom $4 pints of Lift Off IPA & Vacation.
Indiana is fortunate to see a revival in lagers as well as traditional ales in addition to the variety of IPAs and Pales brewed today.
