Grand Opening of Crown Brewery

by Tony Gonnella

August 11, 2008

What goes together better than pizza and beer? How about a pizzeria and a brewery! That’s the kind of synergy that Crown Brewery and Carriage Court Pizzeria are bringing to the table, I mean, your actual table. Two separate ventures under the same roof at the Crown Brewery Restaurant are providing potables and libations to Northwest Indiana beer bevandos. It’s located just east of the main square at 211 S. East St. in Crown Point, IN.

Yep! That’s a crown on top of the smokestack.

The Brewery was the inspiration of Brew Master Jim Cibak and coconspirators Mike Goodfellow, Dave Ryan, and Tim Walsh. While the latter three have all had past food service management experience, they jumped at the chance to expand into craft brewing. Fred Laud’s Carriage Court Pizza, which has been serving the community for the past twenty years, agreed to be roommates and move into the new digs with them.

Brew Master Jim Cibak (left) is a graduate of the Seibel Institute of Technology. His brewing resume includes stints at Goose Island Beer Co. (’95 to ’00) and Three Floyds Brewing Co. (’00 to ’06). His most recent sojourn was at Firestone/Walker Brewing Co. (’06 to present) in Paso Robles, Ca. He also holds a B.A. in Business Administration and Finance from Loyola University. Jim says he’s happy to be back in the area and is very excited about his new venture.

Grand opening night was celebrated on June 13, 2008 in conjunction with the annual Crown Point Corn Roast Festival. The Court House Square was swarming with local residents and festival crashers from around the NWI Region. It was a perfect night for introductions to be made with the community.
