Dark Lord Day 2008

April 26, 2008

by Tony Gonnella

Three Floyds Brewing Company has made Munster, Indiana the Mecca of the  craft beer world. Beer bevandos from aound the world make this annual pilgrimage to the Crossroads of  America,  just south of the juntions of I-90, I-94, I-80 with I-55, I-57, I-65. In other words, all roads brng you to the relm of the Dark Lord.

The last Saturdy of every April is the only day of the year that Dark Lord Russian Imperial Stout is available for purchase. Whether it is due to an ingenius marketing guru,  the miraculous brewing talents of Nick Floyd or a mystic confluence with the Vernal Equinox, this rebirth of what some have annointed the "Best Beer in the World " is celebrated with a feast of food, music and brew for its royal subjects.

Just a couple of the trusty steeds which transported their masters from distant kingdoms. Some came by land. Some came by air. Some came by water. Neither mountain nor valley impeded their progress.  No hardship diminished their desire to pay "homage" and celebrate with friend and stranger alike.

As if the yearly wait is not long enough, the subjects are put to a test of their loyalty and must prove their worthiness by standing in line and braving the elements.

Raymond Sthay, envoy from the land of Kankakee, IL, answerd the call for "arms" from fellow Olivet Nazereen University alumn Clint Puckett who hails from the highlands of Terre Haute, IN.  Assisted by Clint's sisters and a friend, they carry out the first five cases sold of the sweet nectar this year.

They credit their succes to having attended a "dry" uninversity; perfect traing and conditioning for a lifetime of responsible drinking. This does bode well for generations of beer bevandos to come. It's about quality not quantity.

Sheepishly, they admitted they had plans to make off with more of this liquid booty but they were victims of a mutiny. Friends and relatives proved to be last minute infidels and unwilling to make the pilgrimage . Intstead, they chose to remain behind to eat, drink and party with wanton debauchery at the wedding ceremony of a close friend. Can you believe that?

All Hail! Dark Lord Russian Imperil Stout! All Hail!
