The Old Town Ale House in Fishers is a new venture for Matt & Elizabeth Morse, owners of the Corner Wine Bar in Broad Ripple. It's so new, in fact, that it wasn't even officially open when we visited this past Friday. So new that the Grand Opening hadn't even happened. So new that the paint was still drying. So new... As eager Guinea Pigs we grabbed a table in the bar area and awaited service. The Old Town Ale House is one big room with plenty of tables and a bar. But it doesn't really feel like a bar. It has more of a restaurant layout with just a hint of sports bar and an obviously huge emphasis on craft beer. No smoking, thank you very much. (It was nice to see steel-tipped dart boards and a stage for live entertainment). We started with a Bells Dopplebock and a Founder's Stout...
great accompaniments to the fabulous beer cheese soup.
If this was a "real review" things would go downhill from here because the soup was a showstopper. How does he make that? It's truly awesome. Get it! We also ordered the shrimp appetizer. Not spicy, at all. Peppery and tasty...
The beer battered onion rings and fish and chips were good, especially with a la Divine, a French beer we've never had before. It reminded me of the Fischer's I had in Europe. A big bodied malt liquor, 8% ABV, and very smooth.
The Ale House offers a wide selection of draft beers, many from Indiana, in reasonably priced pints. Try any for a dollar or go with a flight of 5 "mini" beers for $8. Trouble deciding? Try the "Hoosier Daddy" or the "The P.S." ...Oh, they aren't very "mini" by the way!
Draft beer not your thing? Choose a bottled beer. A wide selection set to grow wider as the Ale House gets up and running.
Tuesdays & Wednesdays are Pint Night. All draft selections only $2.75. That's right; get a pint of Tripel de 'Ripple for $2.75! I wonder if they realize the significance of that?
