Indiana Beer News! April 2018 – Craft Beer Celebration at Danny Boy IU, Death & Taxes, Mad Anthony Turns 20 + More

Danny Boy Draft Works @ IU on Saturday, April 14, has a substitution for the former Bloomington Craft Beer Fest that has skipped 2018, due to issues with location.  Danny Boy, at 208 S Dunn St, Bloomington, has invited twelve other breweries, from Mad Anthony in Fort Wayne (20th year!) to many in Central Indiana and Bloomington Brewing locally (25th year) to a Celebration of Craft Beer culminating Bloomington Craft Beer Week!  The special beers pour at 2:00 pm with brewery representatives and SWAG.

Function Brewing, at 108 E 6th St, Bloomington, celebrated Bloomington Craft Beer Week with a special Mexican stout (Domain) with a nice spice level that I love.   Function also collaborated with Steve of the soon-to-be Feedstore Brewing Company, Bloomfield, for Standard Deviation jalapeno cream ale.  This one delivers great green pepper flavor with very little burn, just a hint at the end.  This is one of the most unusual beers we’ve had in awhile, in a good way!  Thanks to Steve & Steve! Grab some if you can!

Bloomington Brewing Company was the home of a collaboration between BBC,  Upland Brewing Company, Function Brewing, Quaff On Brewing, The Tap Beer Co., and soon-to-be Switchyard Brewing Company for Blast Zone White IPA.  I found this one on tap at all of the local breweries and has a very nice spicy and fruity  hop flavor.

Taxman Brewing, Bargersville, Plans the release of Cache Blow Blackberry, a Reserve Release Sour with tours and a discounted flight of beer on Saturday, April 14, Tours are at 1 & 2, and are free BUT are limited to 20 people so email bargersville@taxmanbrewing.com for tickets and info. Bottle of 16.9 oz will be $9.99.  Cache Flow is a golden blonde ale offering a combination of bacteria, wild yeast, overflowing with blackberry aromas and fruit flavor. Cache Flow will also be available at the Fortville location.

Taxman’s Death & Taxes Day is April 21, 2018 from noon to 4 pm with a brunch and coffee in their restaurant/brewpub 9-12.  Our count shows at least 32 breweries in addition to cider and mead makers present.  For Tickets and Info click HERE DEATH & TAXES

with MORE Taxman news they pass along that the Evasion series will include Coffee Vanilla, Cocoa Nib Vanilla, Coconut Rum, and Orange Peel Cognac this year. Evasion is released on Death and Taxed day!

Mad Anthony Brewing, Fort Wayne and beyond, celebrates their TWENTIETH anniversary April 23-29th.  Mad Anthony will have $2.75 pints of Panhead Red and Gabby BLond all week + $8 glassware filled with Anniversary Ale.  There are specials every night.

Upland Brewing releases new Sour Beers, including the popular Pawpaw and Boysenberry.  This year they collaborated with Sebastian Sauer of Freigeist, a ‘gypsy’ brewer from German, to create Cavendish.  Freigeist uses a lot of smoked malts while uses a lot of fruits so the collaboration is a fruited smoked beer. Cavendish pours with light brown color and hues of  amber. Complex, Cavendish has a medium-low body, with a dry spicy finish.  No lottery this year, just first come first served and for info check out this website UPLAND SOURS 2018

Four Day Ray, Fishers, releases Blood Orange Blonde, Mexiana Vienna Lager which is the Mexican style,   and Bluebeer Blonde. All are available as their Spring Selection in the Tap Room.
