Sun King Brewing of Indianapolis plans ahead toward 2019 with a specialty production craft brewery and Tap Room near the IKEA, just east of I-69 at 116th Street. A firm called Thompson Thrift Development has been working with the City of Fishers to develop 17 acres to hold restaurants,Entertainment, a possible movie theater, select retail and a culinary accelerator which is a business incubator to be used by a up and coming chefs and outstanding local events according to the City of Fishers documents on their web site.
Sun King will occupy approximately 13,000 square feet with a brewery potentially producing 5,000 barrels of beer per year. According the Sun King press release, “customers will be able to taste and purchase a wide variety of Sun King’s core, seasonal and specialty beers, along with spirits produced by Sun King Spirits in Carmel, on each of the brewery’s two levels, including a 3,000-foot rooftop patio. Carry-out beer will also be available for purchase. Specific areas of the facility will be family friendly for all ages, such as the ample greenspace that opens to The Yard on the main level. The brewery will also include rental space for private and community events. ”
We have all known Sun King as Central Indiana’s largest brewery which until recently sold all of their beer exclusively in Indiana, likely making Sun King the largest producer of beer sold primarily in this state.
Meanwhile, Sun King released one of their delicious seasonal favorites, Velvet Fog Belgian Quad, on January 18 available at both Downtown Indy and the current Fishers location at 7848 E 96th St. Velvet Fog is barrel aged and complex with dark fruit and notes of cherry. This is a World Beer Cup gold medal winner. It is available in a two-pack for $20 while supplies last.
