Sun King turns 7 with Tapping, Troubadours and more — June 25!

gfj-Sun_KingWhat do you do when you turn SEVEN?  Cake, ice cream, party hats?  NO…. Dave, Clay and the gang at Sun King are rocking out a big party Saturday, June 25, in the brewery parking lot, 135 N. College Ave., Indianapolis starting at 4PM.  The big beer event features Grapefruit Jungle’s annual release, a bold American IPA formulated by  head brewer Dave Colt with Pacific Northwest hops for a huge  citrus, grapefruit flavor. This is the kind of beer that has turned yellow, fizzy beer drinkers to IPA lovers based on the love of grapefruit flavor.  This year Grapefruit Jungle will be available in 4-packs for event ticket holders on the 25th and starts distribution in local establishments on draft Dec.27.

Get your party pants on as Indy’s DJ Helicon sets the stage for Turnpike Troubadours, an American Red Dirt group from Oklahoma with punk and  country sounds and as well as country singer Nikki Lane and rock duo HoneyHoney.  (click their name for videos).  Entertainment 4:30-10 p.m.; party ends at 10:30 p.m. Event is for patrons 21 and over.

The event is bigger than ever with added space for the layout, a food tent next to the local food truck court, more draft trucks featuring specialty beers and more can locations spread throughout the party. The brewery will also introduce Sun King Mexican Lager as their Seventh Anniversary beer on June 25.  Just before this party, on June 23, Sun King brings back the winner of the Bronze Medal at the 2015 Great American Beer Festival in the Belgian-Style Fruit Beer Category, Cherry Busey,  This tart cherry bomb uses Montmorency cherries,  wild yeasts, and barrel aging to create a Flanders-style Oud Bruin Ale.  Sun King is also tapping Triptonic this month, a big Belgian-Style Tripel with banana character.

Sun King is, of course, one of Indiana’s largest breweries, marketing their beer exclusively in the state of Indiana. They were pioneers in using cans for beer in Indiana and were early enthusiasts with barrel aging.
